Authors (Roles and Capabilties)

Are there any plans to introduce roles and capabilities for authors like we have in WordPress (Admin, Editor, Author, Contributor)?

That’s the only thing holding me from migrating my tech blog to Publii.

Publii is an on-premises, single-install website editor. It isn’t a multi-user, software-as-a-service, cloud-based solution where people can log in, have user accounts, roles and capabilities.

While it is absolutely possible to share the management and administration of a Publii site by using a shared folder as the active “site” directory, and allowing people who have access to the shared folder to modify content, I do not believe there’s any way to control access and publishing rights in the way you describe, like you might a cloud-based or server-side solution, like WordPress.

I’m sure, assigning custom publishing rights to authors is definitely possible if implemented in future versions.

Multi-author blogs with editors, authors, and contributors need this feature to be able to migrate to Publii.

Does anybody know any other static site solution that offers such capabilities? NetlifyCMS perhaps?

It’s not a static site generator, but Ghost is open source and better suited for the kind of website management that you describe:: https://ghost.org/

You can pay for the hosted version on their website, or self-host cheaply on services  like Railway.

If you’re specifically looking for CMSs for static sites and/or static site generators, the Jamstack website might be your best avenue to find them: https://jamstack.org/
