How does the team choose if a theme will be paid or not?

I wonder how the Publii team chooses if a theme will be paid or not?
I also like the new “Freemium” option of the “Persona” theme which allows you to try the theme before buying, it’s a great idea! I hope to see this on themes like “Sources” and others..
Also, is 6 months of update after purchase long enough? Publii does not release a new version every month and is still in full development. I therefore think that the themes are very often reviewed and that it will be necessary to repay the theme with each new version of publii, no?
But ok, Publii is a great project that must be able to live from its sales and therefore necessarily it must be profitable for its creators.
August 8, 2022 at 2:38 pm #8009[anonymous]I totally hear you. I’ve paid for a premium theme and love supporting Publii. That said, it would be cool if there was some kind of points system where forum users who contribute the most, create useful plugins, improve documentation, provide translation, and help others were rewarded with discounts on premium themes and plugins, or extensions on existing premium purchases.
There’s a cell service company in Canada called Public Mobile which reduces the bill for users who are active on the forum.

✓ 6-months access to the files and updates
With blackfriday, we hesitate for the bundle but 6 months is very short for updates.

Indeed, I have to say I feel the same. I’ve already spent hundreds of dollars on Publii themes and plugins, and I don’t mind it as the project needs the support. But for my customers it’s a very hard sell, basically the paid themes/plugins are on a 6-month subscription plan at the moment and that’s worse than what other platforms offer. It would be much less of a problem if Publii was a mature, stable piece of software — but it’s not, we basically need updates constantly (and the app pushes you to update), which means the templates need to be kept in sync, thus re-purchased. The developers should look into different models here, or at least some form of perpetual licensing for people/companies who contribute in other ways.
December 1, 2022 at 10:21 am #8859BobHi there!
We’re so grateful for your suggestions. In response, we’ve decided to extend the access period for files and updates from six to twelve months starting December 1st.
I hope that’s what you expected.
PS: This does not apply to purchases made before December 1st.

Hello !
Great news and feedback here !
Thank you Bob and thank you to Publii for listening to the community. 👏🥳And too bad for me because in the meantime I decided to buy the bundle2 days ago, telling myself that it would support the project 😅
December 2, 2022 at 2:50 pm #8864[anonymous]Personally I bought the complete pack on black friday basically for one reason: to put a grain of sand and support the project (not for the themes themselves).
In my case, the updates are not a problem (if I understand well what this entails).
I will be able to continue launching websites with those themes even if they are not in the latest version, right?
