News Websites with Publii

News websites have a specific sitemap format as described by google https://developers.google.com/search/docs/advanced/sitemaps/news-sitemap

But I see Publii create the standard sitemap for articles.

Is it possible to create a custom google news sitemap with Publii.

It will also be great to change the type of structured data from Article to NewsArticle.

SEO Advantages, google treats News articles differently as compared to normal Articles.

With my previous blog experiments, I have found that if we follow best practices for news articles they get listed and indexed very fast and have a wider reach.

Following the Google guide:

“Sites with a News sitemap aren’t favored in ranking results. Google News uses normal crawl methods to search and label the homepages and sections of all news sites, regardless of the availability of a News sitemap”

I don’t know if it is worth the effort at this stage of News sitemap implementation. Maybe in the future or as a plugin, who knows 🙂
