Disable automatic media deletion

    Hi team,

I’m working on improving images performance and I’ve got mind-blowing results with a combination of avif, webp, jpg using the HTML5 picture and source. The code is still clean and simple; it doesn’t add a mess in the template or anything.

The only problem I’ve got is a Publii default behaviour which is to delete any medias that aren’t uploaded via the software (if I understand that part correctly) which is a bummer.

I know, some users (including myself) have already requested more support for next-gen images support in Publii (thanks for adding up webp to the list! ♥), but it’s not enough anymore. Webp is not supported on older MAC devices and avif has come a long way with massive improvements that sheds MB of images; it’s an amazing, free, SEO and users experience.

The suggest is as follow: can we have some kind of switch that would change the default behaviour of cleaning “unused” medias that would otherwise be automatically deleted upon saving and syncing a project?

    Hi,

I will check what we can do with it.

For sure we won’t allow disabling images clean up at all.

But option to disable removal of images with different extensions sounds ok for me at this moment.

    Hi Tomasz,

    Thank you for considering this.

    Yes, that’d be great.
