Hi, the previews of the themes have very nicely laid out pages. For example the QF theme has several pictures and text overlays on the front page.

When I install the theme, I don’t seem to get any of these templates. Is there a way to download that somehow or use the preview of the theme as a starting point for a web site?

All you need to do is write a few posts, and then the website will automatically build itself from the content you created.
