Issue when changing default theme

    Site Settings:

When I try to change the theme and click on “Save Settings,” the “Save Settings” button freezes and nothing happens. There is no pop-up message saying “Settings saved.”

If I click on another menu and then go back to the Site Settings, there are no modifications. However, when I click on “Preview Website,” the new theme is functional.

Do you have any idea what could be causing this issue?

This was caused by the backup folder being on a local network drive. But I need this backup folder on my server, so what can I do?

I’m using Apple macOS Ventura 13.2.1, Publii Version: 0.41.1 (build 15919).

What I’ve found is that when changing the theme first time as you describe, the theme does indeed change, but we must first close Publii and restart. Then the Site Settings shows the new theme is shown. Plus of course you can verify with Preview.

If I then change the theme back to the original, when we choose Save, a popup message confirms the theme has been changed back.

Also, sometimes, when you change the theme after the first time change, the Save button light blue background colour changes grey perhaps to indicate confirmation of change.

So on macOS at least, for completeness, it looks like this latest version of Publii is missing a minor popup message indicator, and perhaps a prompt to tell the user to close and restart Publii.

For now, the key thing is to close and restart Publii, then check the Site Settings to confirm you change has been made.

If you’re using Publii under Microsoft Windows, do you find it’s any different?

I confirm it’s the same in Windows, but the problem I describe is related to the path of the backup folder being on a network drive.

The Publii Help docs page at: https://getpublii.com/docs/publii-global-settings.html#fileslocation suggests that your backup location can either be local or online. So maybe your current online path settings aren’t yet correct for your specific setup. Perhaps other users on Windows could help further.

jfrere: you could set the backup folder to local and sync it to your server (Syncthing, Seafile, Nextcloud etc).

Yes I know I can sync the folder, but a network share should work fine.
