    Can Documentation Theme display nested sidebar menus? If not, is it possible for a non-programmer to add them to the sidebar?

    The Documentation Theme page shows “Sidebar menu examples” –

    A nested menu might expand to show new categories similar to the way the Main Menu in some Publii themes works.

    For example:

    Book Title -> Chapter Title -> Section Title

    Year -> Month -> Day – This is similar to the way WordPress shows blog posts in the sidebar.

    The need I have is to create navigation for several book length documents (c.100,000 words each), hence the question. It would be great if Publii could handle this task. The convenience of being able to author documents while off the grid is excellent, as is the speed of the static HTML websites that Publii creates.

    Have you had a look at ProDocs?  This theme does allow nested menus.

    Thanks Christopher!

    I was thinking of adding the nested sidebar menu (ProDocs SideNav menu) to Documentation theme since I like the card layout the latter provides. Looking at the two themes’ HTML I think this might be difficult to implement.

    How many levels of collapsible side menus are possible with the ProDocs SideNav menu? Is there a limit? Three levels are illustrated by way of example;

    I think that’s a question for Bob.  I haven’t used more than 3 levels on any of my sites, but I have just experimented with 5 levels and that seems to work (using the Preview Changes option).

    Thanks for testing the SideNav menu levels. I don’t think I’ll need more than five levels… 🙂

    I went to buy the ProDocs theme but was rebuffed by the system message:

    <h1 class=”site-title”>Publii Marketplace</h1>
    <h2 class=”heading font-center”>Maintenance mode is on</h2>
    Site will be available soon. Thank you for your patience!

    I’ll try again tomorrow.
