Q: importing images from local path

i want to import a WP XML – the website is no longer active but i have a backup – what would be the best way to import the images from a local folder?

i’m thinking i could RegEx replace the paths in the XML, but what would the URL be (linux)? would it be file:///<path>?

or is there some option for running publii perhaps, etc.?

Unfortunately at this moment importer supports only remote files during import.
